Suggestions for suit, tie and waistcoat combinations

Suggestions for suit, tie and waistcoat combinations

We know that picking fabrics that create a visual or a theme can be difficult enough, and even more so for a wedding. Menswear, and grooms wear in specific can be daunting, finding fabrics for a suit, waistcoat and tie that work to a theme or even match is tricky.

To give a better visual idea of what the fabrics might look like together, we have paired up some fabrics and created some themed suggestions to help guide you. In these images we have laid the fabrics out so they look like a suit, tie and waistcoat combination.  You can always change little details, like select a different colour tie fabric, or switch up the suit colour. You can even order a set of swatches based on the recommendation, or select the fabrics individually to order swatches.

Feel free to play around. We will be adding new suggestions at random.

Groom fabric combo - bluesStylish Cool Blue Groom

Starting with this blue groom combination, we have a smooth navy wool suit with a classic Regency style floral brocade waistcoat. The brocade has a satin finish on the background of the floral pattern, giving a level of sophistication. We have chosen to pair it with a crisp dark blue shot green silk dupion tie or cravat, to match with the green leaves in the brocade. This could also be used to make a matching cumberband. Alternatively, you can pick other colours from the brocade, such as the dusty pink or the pale sand gold colour.

For the back of the waistcoat we have a viscose satin fabric in navy that could also be used to line the suit jacket (not seen in the image), but this could also be substituted for a gold shot blue fabric.

Groom Red velvetBohemian Velvet Red and Orange Groom

Next up, the deep red velvet jacket or suit gives a colourful bohemian feel, with the sleek geometric stripe silk brocade for a waistcoat, and a bright orange shot purple silk dupion as a tie or cravat. This can also be used for a cumberband.

For a more classic twist to this look, a smooth burgundy wool can be used as a suit.

An elegant burgundy viscose satin lining can become both the back of the waistcoat and the lining of the jacket, or for the more brave, a pop of orange satin.

Groom Camel and IvoryClassic Camel and Ivory Groom

A combination of a casual yet stylish camel wool crepe blazer or suit with a stylish leaf pattern brocade waistcoat in ivory and gold, and a dashing small check brocade tie or cravat. Alternatively, switch it up by using the check fabric for the waistcoat and select a plain silk for the tie/cravat and optional bumberband.

Mink or ivory viscose satin lining adds a subtle touch of class when used to line the jacket as well as the back of the waistcoat. https://www.topfabric.co.uk/ivory-satin-lining.html

For a more strong colour choice, switch it up with a mustard golden lining for the jacket and waistcoat back.

Groom Mauve and GreyElegant Mauve & Grey Groom

Last but not least, we have gone a little more traditional with a suave combination of an elegant grey and burgundy pinstripe wool suit, an elegant dusty lilac silk waistcoat embroidered with flowers, branches and birds and a textured mauve silk tie or cravat. This could also be a cumberband. We also have the plain silk from the embroidery available for a simple combination

A fun shot of colour, the suggested lining is a pink shot mint viscose twill lining that picks up the colours of the tie and the embroidery, versatile as it can be used to line the jacket as well as the back of the waistcoat, but you could go with a plain grey or even this burgundy.
