Mud Silk, also known as “gambiered canton gauze,” is a traditional fabric of Lingnan, made through an ancient process. Using sunlight, mud, and river water, it acquired the name "soft gold." Soaked in Shuliang (a natural local yam-like root plant) juice and combined with mud, it becomes light yet strong, changing in appearance over time. Hand-dyed using natural plants, each thread shows traces of the crafting process, making each piece unique.
The process creates a double sided reversible textile with a crackled effect where one side remains black, this one in a Japanese laurel green colour.
